Therapy for children

Trauma

Children have incredible potential for healing and resilience after trauma. And one of the biggest contributing factors to resilience is the presence of safe, trustworthy, consistent adults who are able to allow the child to be honest about their experiences and how they have affected them. If you’re looking for therapy for your child, I am certain that you want to be an adult like this.

My role as a child therapist when there is trauma is to be a protector, witness, and guide. Together, we will pay attention to your child’s current context and do what is in our power to make things safe and secure. In addition to this, I am here to witness your child as a whole person; honoring them by really listening and giving them space to express themselves. And finally, I am here to guide your child through the brave and challenging work of facing the overwhelming emotions, sensations, and thoughts associated with their traumatic experiences. I use play therapy and EMDR, along with parent education and guidance, as my main treatment approaches when there is trauma.
